Yamanto Central to bring big city retailing to a fast-growing region

July 2018

Yamanto Central is redefining what it means to be a community-based shopping centre. DMA Partners is excited to have been appointed as development partner, advisor and leasing agents for this ground-breaking development.

JM Kelly Group General Manager Vicki Leavy said the landmark retail project is about bringing big city retail concepts to an emerging regional location.

“This is in no way a standard retail project. It is really pushing the envelope on what would usually be expected with this type of retail centre,” Ms Leavy said.

“In fact, the vision of Yamanto Central is to create a whole new classification of retail centre, one that takes the very best lifestyle and design elements of the super-regional centres and combines them with the convenience and community-focus of a smaller centre.

“There is nothing else like this in the wider Ipswich area and as such we believe Yamanto Central will become a major lifestyle drawcard for the many young families now making a home in the local catchment and beyond.

“By taking the best and brightest ideas from the big super-regional centres and transferring them to the community level, Yamanto Central will create an exciting new lifestyle destination for this rapidly-emerging area to meet, eat, shop and enjoy.

“The 20,000sqm sub-regional shopping centre will be anchored by a major supermarket chain, a discount department store and unique sub-anchor precincts centred around an innovative fresh food market hall and a dedicated outdoor dining and entertainment area.

“The 1,750sqm fresh food market hall and its dedicated outdoor dining and entertainment area takes inspiration from food halls usually only found in capital cities or trend-setting super regional shopping centres. This premium food hall is fully integrated into the project from the very beginning, rather than merely an add-on after completion, which is typical of larger super regional centres.

“The centre expertly integrates children’s play and entertainment areas with stylish outdoor dining facilities. Parents can sit back and enjoy a coffee or casual meal while still in full view of their playing children. Safe soft fall areas, noise management and surveillance ensure comfort for both diners and children.”

The primary trade area population within a five minute drive of Yamanto Central is projected to reach more than 59,360 people over the next 10 years, reflecting an annual growth rate of 3.6 per cent. The projected growth will be driven by a range of new residential housing estates, attracting an influx of young families to the area.

The population already contains approximately 7,000 service men and women at the expanded Amberley RAAF Base, contributing to a significantly higher average household income compared to the wider Ipswich area. Also, the creation of thousands of new jobs from the recently awarded army vehicle manufacturing contract will be a further boost to Ipswich’s defence industry.
